What is Cursor rules?

Cursor rules are project-level instructions that guide the Cursor agent. They help consistency, but they do not replace a complete one-shot prompt for a specific component or feature.

Why does this term matter for AI prompts?

Precise vocabulary reduces vague instructions. When you name cursor rules correctly in a brief, Claude, Cursor, and GPT spend fewer tokens guessing. Pair definitions with structure on AI prompt builder and cost math on prompt token cost.
